How we calculate bonus EV
Every BonusOz review uses the same transparent model so you can reproduce our numbers.
The formula
For a bonus of amount B with wagering multiplier W, total required turnover is B × W. At an assumed slot return-to-player of 96% (RTP), expected loss while clearing is turnover × (1 − RTP). The bonus's expected value is then:
EV = B − (B × W × (1 − 0.96))
Worked example
A $200 bonus at 40x wagering requires $8,000 of turnover. At 96% RTP that is $320 of expected loss, so EV = $200 − $320 = −$120. The headline percentage is irrelevant — what matters is what you keep after wagering.
What the model deliberately simplifies
We assume 96% RTP and full game contribution. Real outcomes vary with the games you play, max-bet rules, excluded games, expiry windows and country restrictions. Each review lists what to verify on the live site, and our calculator lets you plug in the exact current numbers.
